Fond memories as a young boy reading fables with my grandparents, illustrated by skilfully crafted etchings.
Who hasn’t fallen into on page adventures, exploring ethereal forests and creatures both real and mythical. In ‘Lost in a Mystery’ I wanted to embrace the style of much-loved etchings, but in my preferred medium of oil paint.
Applying layers of colour, then gradually lifting it back from the canvas board using tools to hand. In this instance I deliberately chose not to use typical brushes and palette knives. Instead, I worked with, (1) a sponge, (2) a cotton bud, (3) a cocktail stick. Truth be told, seven cocktail sticks were injured in the making of the piece.
