The slower approach was to pace my enthusiasm to present the final piece. The reality: it took me eleven months to complete, as I gradually built dense layers of marks with careful attention to smaller details and allowing myself to sit back and study the developing outcome. So, when asked “how long can it take to make a painting” I can honestly answer the six-month piece became known in the studio as the eleven-month piece.
